Between 1998 and 2001 the entire studio of Francis Bacon was dismantled piece by piece and reassembled at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin.

David Clarke was born into a family of artists. His father was Harry Clarke, the renowned stained glass artist and book illustrator, and his mother was the painter Margaret Clarke, best known for her portraiture. The Harry Clarke Studios were in North Frederick Street, just around the corner from Belvedere College, where three generations of Clarkes were educated – Harry, David and David’s son Rory. The family lived on North Circular Road near the Phoenix Park, David’s beloved refuge and university of nature, where he spent much of his childhood and where he walked almost every day.

Returning home to Northern Ireland I continued in the style which I had developed while living in Spain and my paintings hopefully reflect the character and personality of the wonderful Spanish way of life, colourful, unique and vibrant.

A member of the White Stag Group and also the Society of Dublin Painters, Phyllis Hayward was born in Portsmouth, England, and first studied art there at the Portsmouth School of Art. She moved to London where she studied part-time at the Central School of Art and came under the influence of Basil Rakocsi’s Society for Creative Psychology. In 1940 Hayward moved to Dublin and began exhibiting with both the White Stags and the Contemporary Pictures Gallery. Her work was characterised by a dynamic use of line and bold colours. Together with Rakocsi, Kenneth Hall, Mainie Jellett, and Patrick Scott she represented the most experimental stream of art at that time in Ireland. She was also a regular exhibitor at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art. Eugene Judge was a Mayo based painter who went to Paris in the 1930s to study under Andre Lhote. On returning to Ireland he began exhibiting with the Watercolour Society of Ireland. By 1940 he was showing regularly with the Contemporary Pictures Gallery in Leinster Street, Dublin. Ref: Whyte’s.

Fergus Martin was born in Cork, Ireland. He studied painting at Dun Laoghaire School of Art from 1972 – 1976. From 1979 – 1988 he lived and worked in Italy, where he lectured in English Language at The University of Milan.
In 1988, he returned to painting and had his first solo exhibition at Oliver Dowling Gallery, Dublin, in 1990. In 1991, he attended The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. He received awards from The Pollock Krasner Foundation, New York, in 1999 and 2006, and was awarded The Marten Toonder Award by The Arts Council/An Comhairle Ealaion in 1999. In 2001, he was elected to Aosdana.

In a previous life Dublin born, Colin O’Daly was a Michelin star chef, but painting was always part of his life. He gradually made the transition from chef to full-time artist over a number of years.
The majority of his recent paintings are influenced by the landscape of West Cork where he now lives and many have a mysterious quality and peacefulness to them but with a warmth and sense of expectation.

Born in Dublin. Educated by the Christian Brothers James Street Dublin and at Rockwell College Co.Tipperary, later a student at The Royal Architectural Institute of Ireland, employed as a draughtsman in a Dublin in a structural engineering practice. In 1953 he emigrated to Toronto Canada where he worked in various jobs, attended art classes at the Doon School of Art in Ontario.

Harry Reid was born in Belfast and was a chartered surveyor by profession and worked for the Valuation and Land Agency. His interest in painting was inspired by his life in Bangor West, where he lived for most of his adult life, surrounded by the beautiful seascapes and landscape of County Down.
